Sample Itinerary:
Vienna & Budapest
Day 1 - VIENNA
Early moring arrival at Vienna Schwechat Airport. Transfer to hotel, check
in, freshen up and have lunch before setting out on a sightseeing tour of
this marvelous city, the former center of the Hapsburg Empire. The tour
begins with a view of Belvedere Palace and its gardens, continues with a
drive along the famous Ringstrasse, then see the Empress Maria Theresia
Monument, Votive Church, City Hall, Parliament, Prater amusement park and
the State Opera House. Dinner and time to acclimate.
Day 2 - VIENNA
Visit St. Stephan’s Cathedral, the Hofburg courtyards and the Mozart
Memorial Rooms. After lunch visit the Schoenbrunn Palace and make a brief
stop at the Haydn house. This evening, depending on availability, attend a
concert or an operatic performance.
Day 3 - VIENNA
Morning visit to Akademisches Gymnasium to get acquainted and sing together
with the school choir. After lunch visit the Beethoven House before
returning to the hotel to relax and dress for the concert. Drive to the
concert site for rehearsal and concert.
Day 4 - VIENNA-FERTOD-BUDAPEST
After breakfast load luggage onto buses. Free time in small groups in the
historic city center before departing for Budapest. Cross the Hungarian
border and stop for lunch in Fertod, where we can have a look at the
fabulous Esterhazy Palace, known as the "Hungarian Versailles". Haydn was
the court composer and conductor here for many years. Performance here.
Continue on to Budapest. Check into hotel and have dinner. Relax.
Day 5 - BUDAPEST
Exploration of this city, which, like Vienna, is beautifully situated on the
Danube River and was also a significant seat of political and cultural power
and in the Habsburg Empire. Originally there were two separate cities, Buda
and Pest, separated by the Danube before being consolidated in the late 19th
century. Get acquainted with the cobblestone castle district, the hilltop
Citadel, the Parliament, Fisherman’s Bastion, and the city's three lovely
main bridges. See of course St. Stephen’s Basilica and the Great Synagogue
(the second largest in the world) with nearby Holocaust Memorial. This
evening enjoy a concert of Hungarian folk music.
Day 6 - BUDAPEST
Meet with the Hungarian singers of Veres Palme High School. Lunch and
rehearsal at concert site. Return to hotel to freshen up, have a snack and
dress for concert, then head back to concert hall for the performance.
After the concert, dinnner with the students from the school as well some
more time afterwards to bond and make new friends before heading back to the
hotel.
Day 8 - BUDAPEST-ESZTERGOM-VIENNA
Free time in small groups in the old town before departing Budapest. Lunch
stop in Esztergom, the “Hungarian Rome." It is the birthplace of King
Stephen and the site of the first Royal Court of Hungary. A basilica was
originally built here in 1010, and has been expanded over the centuries to
become Hungary's largest church. Continue on to Vienna, check into hotel.
Farewell dinner.
Day 9 - VIENNA-RETURN FLIGHT HOME
After an early breakfeast transfer to the airport for the flight home.
