Frequently Asked Questions:

Q - I'm a vegetarian. Will I be able to get vegetarian meals on the tour?
A - Yes. When you sign up for the tour, just let us know and we'll make sure all your meals are vegetarian.
Q - What are the accommodations like?
A - The hotel rooms are basic, clean, double occupancy rooms with a private bath. If you prefer more privacy, let Kathie know when you make your reservations. Single occupancy rooms are available for an additional charge.
Q - How much luggage should I take?
A - Travel as light as possible. Most people take one suitcase and one carry-on. If you plan to make a lot of purchases, you might want to bring an empty duffle bag (or similar collapsible bag) in which you could put your laundry to make room in your suitcase for purchases. Porter service at airports or hotels is not provided as part of the tour. If you'll need help moving your luggage, please advise Kathie when you make your reservations. This service may be arranged at your expense.
Q - Do I need to get any shots before I go to Russia?
A - Although your shot record is not required, it is always a good idea to have your shots up to date. If you haven't had a recent tetanus shot or have not had the hepatitis shots, it would be a good idea to do so before going to Russia.
Q - What is the Russian night train like?
A - You will be assigned to a four person compartment with a table and two seats that convert to bunks and two fold down bunks for a total of four "beds". Each bunk has sheets and a pillow, and blankets are available. The toilet is at the end of the car. Bring something to sleep in such as a sweat suit or tee shirt and shorts. Some people sleep soundly because of the motion of the train while others do not. In any case it is a memorable experience. Although food is provided, you may want to purchase some favorite snacks or beverages before departure. More private accommodations are available at an additional cost of $50. Let Kathie know when you make reservations.
Q - What should I pack?
Here are some suggestions for packing. Remember - when in doubt, leave it out:
BE SURE TO TAKE:
  • Good walking shoes for wet weather
  • Collapsible umbrella
  • Suitable clothing for the theater
  • An alarm clock
  • Any medications needed
  • Your passport and airline ticket
  • Camera with lots of film or a large memory card
  • YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR
CONSIDER TAKING:
  • Only electrical appliances that use European current (230 volt)
  • A small flashlight
  • Opera glasses if you have them
  • Photographs of your family, etc. to share with Host families
  • Gifts for Host families, such as: coffee, chocolate, books you like, gift soaps and cosmetics
Important - Money Matters:
Take US Dollars or Euros, not Travelers Checks, in a belt pouch or one to wear around your neck. If you are traveling to Russia you cannot bring Rubles with you into the country.
Mobile Phones:
Please consult your service provider concerning reception in Europe and Russia. Some providers (such as T-Mobile) are better than others in Europe.
Bottled Water:
is easily available and inexpensive, so please don't carry a large supply!
